Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

Scalp Micropigmentation, also known as a CosmeticHairline Tattoo, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses a medical grade pigment to create the appearance of a closely shaved head of hair using specialized pigments and micro-needles. read more

At MAXIM, SMP pricing is reasonable and competitive. We offer package pricing based on the size and area of the scalp being treated. You can expect transparent quotes upfront with no hidden fees.

A full SMP process typically requires 3 sessions spaced 14 days apart. Each session lasts 2-4 hours depending on the area being treated. Smaller areas like filling in a hairline or scar may only require 1 hour.

We use local anesthesia to help you manage your pain. Most people don't feel more than a light bit of pressure throughout the entire process. You can read or listen to a podcast while we complete the procedure, or just sit back, relax, and think. It will take very little of your attention!

Our trained SMP specialists use specialized micro-needles and surgical-grade pigments to meticulously implant pigment deposits into the scalp skin. This creates the appearance of closely shaved, solid hair follicles, mimicking the look of a full head of hair.

You should avoid blood thinners, alcohol, and certain supplements in the days leading up to your appointment as instructed. For clients worried about discomfort during the procedure, there are topical anesthetic creams the tech can recommend the client buy upon request. They can be purchased from a reputable source to administer before the client arrives at the office.

Advantages

There are a handful of advantages to SMPs for the right candidates.

The medical grade pigment mimics real hair and is often indistinguishable from real hair. We can use it to give a man a neat, clean "buzz cut" look, or to carefully fill in small patches of lost hair as long as the hair is kept short. Alternatively, men and women with thinning hair can use this procedure to add the illusion of density. Added density will be completely indistinguishable from the real hair.

You'll notice immediately visible results after your first SMP session creating the look of a freshly shaved full head of hair. The following 2 sessions will continue to add density till it looks just like a full head of hair that the client chooses to keep short.

SMP offers long-lasting results. The SMP pigment should retain its color and strength for two to three years. You can schedule an touch-up procedure as often as you need to in order to address fading. Scalp micropigmentation is hassle-free, requiring minimal maintenance.

We use the finest medical grade pigments to give you incredible results. Our inks are long-lasting, non-toxic, and safe to use. We offer multiple shades for multiple skin tones. These are tattoo pigments especially created for SMP procedures.

SMP provides a shaved look which can be used to add density to thinning areas, camouflage transplant scarring, extend the appearance of a receding hairline, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

SMP stands for scalp micropigmentation. Also called cosmetic hair tattoos, scalp micropigmentation is an aesthetic procedure used to conceal hair loss. However, because of its versatility, SMP is also used for non-cosmetic purposes such as the concealment of scars from accidents or previous hair transplants. Traditionally, scars were revised surgically through a procedure also known as scar revision or scar repair.

At MAXIM Hair Restoration, clients can be rest assured that only our top-caliber SMP specialists and professionals handle our SMP procedures. They are highly trained and experienced with hundreds of cases under their belts. They will work with you in assessing the extent of the procedure and how many sessions are needed to get the job done. During the procedure, they use sophisticated, state-of-the-art scalp micropigmentation to efficiently and realistically replicate human hair.

A full SMP procedure usually consists of several sessions spread over a period of 4 to 6 weeks. Each session lasts two to four hours each.

Natural medical-grade pigments that are deposited into the scalp using microneedles creating the appearance of hair follicles. Through SMP, patients suffering from hair loss can achieve a buzz cut look. They can also have their receding hairlines restored painlessly and almost instantly.

Patients will need to schedule an initial appointment to discuss with our experts what they want to achieve through the SMP procedure. During this initial consultation, MAXIM Hair Restoration specialists will manage the client's expectations and explain the risks and benefits associated with SMP.

SMP has several advantages over hair transplant procedures including:

Non-invasive. Unlike hair transplant procedures such as FUE and FUT, SMP is non-invasive and is similar to getting a tattoo. That is why SMP is ideal for those who shy away from hair transplant surgery or those who can't afford time off work for a post-op recovery period.

No Medication. Aside from a topical numbing agent used during the session, no other medication is required for this non-invasive procedure.

Proven Effective. Why read about it? Take a look for yourself. Check out pre- and post-op pictures of satisfied clients after their SMP procedure

Unlimited potential.  You’ll never have to worry about hair rejection or running out of donor hair.  We can put as much ink as is needed to finish the procedure.

Although relatively uncomfortable as any tattoo, a topical numbing agent can be  applied on the scalp to ease the patient's discomfort during the SMP procedure.  Clients concerned with this should request information where they can buy a cream to apply before they arrive at the office.
