What is a Hair Transplant?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that involves moving healthy hair follicles from one part of the body (the donor area) to the balding or thinning areas of the scalp. This permanent solution for hair loss uses your own natural hair, ensuring results that look and feel completely natural.
The two main types of hair transplant procedures are:
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive hair transplant technique that has gained popularity in recent years. During an FUE procedure, individual follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area using a specialized punch tool.
These grafts are then carefully transplanted into the recipient area, creating a natural-looking hairline and increased density.
At MAXIM Hair Restoration, we use the advanced European WAW FUE System, which combines manual and automated techniques for precise graft extraction and transplantation.
Advantages of FUE:
- No linear scar in the donor area, resulting in a shorter recovery time
- Minimally invasive procedure with little discomfort
- Ability to extract grafts from other body areas, such as the chest or beard, for those with limited scalp donor hair
Whether you choose FUT or FUE, our experienced surgeons will work closely with you to determine the best approach for your individual needs and desired results.
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
Also known as the "strip method," Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a widely used and effective hair transplant technique. During this procedure, a strip of skin containing hair follicles is removed from the donor area, typically the back or sides of the scalp.
This strip is then carefully dissected under a microscope to separate the individual follicular unit grafts, which are then transplanted into the balding or thinning areas of the scalp.
While FUT leaves a linear scar in the donor area, this scar is typically well-concealed by the surrounding hair and is not visible once the hair grows back.
Advantages of FUT:
- Ability to transplant a large number of grafts in a single session
- Proven long-term results and high survival rate of transplanted grafts
- Suitable for patients with limited donor hair
